She Came to Slay: The Life and Times of Harriet Tubman by Erica Armstrong Dunbar
5.0
I picked up this book from the library because I love Harriet Tubman. However, I didn't think I would learn too many new things about her because many books seem to repeat the same things. I was wrong. This book revealed some new details of Harriet Tubman's life to me and also listed a number of resources in the back for further reading.
The struggles of Harriet's life beyond her trails and trials on the Underground Railroad are presented in a way that is engaging and easy to read. This is only the second book I've read that goes into detail about her successfully leading the raid on the Combahee River.
The autobiography Sarah Bradford wrote about Mother Tubman pales in comparison to this book, so much so that I may have to go and adjust my rating of the aforementioned.
I recommend this book for readers of all ages.
