Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon by Michael Lewis

3.0

Michael takes a deep dive into Sam Bankman-Fried and the fall of FTX. While the book focuses on Sam, FTX and Sam cannot be separated.

If you have any interest in cryptocurrency, emerging technology, or stories of fraud/true crime, you will enjoy this book. This book was released right around the time SBF was convicted. There have been no appeals yet, but there are sure to be. In time there will be many books written about SBF and FTX. Most likely a movie also. It's a fast read and engaging like Michael Lewis' other books.

Sam comes across as an emotionless being using effective altruism as bait to draw people into his circle. In Sam's world the ends justify the means and many people lost millions of dollars. I'm left with questions about SFB's upbringing where morality seemed more of a construct of guidelines than a definitive separation of right and wrong. Sam saw himself outside of morality and reality.
