A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
5.0
This is NOT my usual genre - I always find myself struggling to read a fantasy novel, mainly because I find them a lot of work to keep track of the different worlds, creatures, characters and their abilities. However, ACOTAR was definitely an easy one to lose myself so entirely in, and I was delightfully surprised!
Feyre is a mortal human who kills a wolf in the woods, and is forced to pay retribution for her actions from a beast-like creature. She is dragged to Prythian, a magical land feared by humans and known only through legends. Her captor turns out to be Tamlin, an immortal High Fae who was once one of the many rulers of the mortal world. As Feyre spends time with the Fae, she quickly learns that not everything from legend is true. Her desires to return home to the mortal world dampen once she gets to know Tamlin, and about the hostilities that threaten the Fae world. In the end, Feyre makes a choice that will not only effect her life, but the life of the Fae world as well.
This is a hard one to review without spoilers because I wanted to say SO MANY THINGS! I am fully invested in this world, in these characters, and I can not WAIT to continue on with this trilogy. Feyre is definitely the right kind of strong, bad-ass, no-nonsense woman I love to read about. She supports the ones she loves, she makes her own choices, and doesn't shy away from a battle. I can't wait to see where she ends up, and where Sarah J. Maas takes the rest of this series!
One thing I will end with - this is NOT for young readers. There were many scenes and chapters that were making me blush, and I am a grown-ass woman. Not complaining however, because I did enjoy these parts.
