Once again, King has written a book that had me hooked immediately. This back is a mix of horror, thriller, crime, with a touch of YA. I say a touch of YA as it is written from a child (and later teenager) point of view so it is written in a way where you are experiencing the story from a child's point of view. But it did not have any other YA elements really, I mean this is King after all. This was a quick and easy read, something that can't be said of most King books (tomes, really) and I had a really hard time putting it down. As I was reading I just felt the need to know what happens next, I was completely invested in the story. It has twists and turns you don't expect and you can never really guess where the story is going next. The story also gets under your skin, in the way most Kind stories do. I felt the fear and dread that the MC (Jamie) felt; I was with him and experiencing everything as he did. Of course, the story is left with a bit of mystery, which I actually enjoy in books, but you don't feel as if you are missing anything when the book ends. The storyline is tied up neatly in all the right places but with an element of the unknown left, as I feel is necessary for a story like this. The characters are written well, ones you love and hate, and the plot is unique, immersive, and compelling. One of the things I loved most about this book is that as I was reading I could imagine the story going in so many different directions, so I never once felt like I knew what the outcome would be. This book definitely gets a big thumbs up from me.
