Haunting and thought-provoking, though perhaps not a good choice for an audiobook read. I thoroughly enjoyed the detached writing style and musings on medieval art (thanks to my previous read, A Month in the Country by J.L. Carr!), as well as the general atmosphere painted by the author. The one star deduction stems from the format I picked for this read (audiobook) - while the narrator did a fantastic job, I feel like I missed out on certain passages and scenes. I am sure that a reread would result in a 5 star rating, so I am very much looking forward to revisiting it eventually.
