Embers in the Snow by Anna Carven
5.0
Corvan & Finley: As Close to Fated Without Being Fated. I Loved It! 5 Stars!
This was my first book by Anna Carven and I need more! This book was amazing!
EMBERS IN THE SNOW is a fascinating Romantasy novel about a woman named Finley who has spent her entire existence under the heel of her very domineering father and neglectful stepmother. Constantly cast aside by her father in favor of her two younger, half-brothers, she learns that he father has "married her off" to a Lord who lives as a recluse due to a "mysterious transformation" he endured due to powerful magic in the midst of battle for territory. A chain of unfortunate events brings her face to face with her betrothed, Archduke Corvan Duthriss. Corvan has avoided court and the female population due to his craving for their blood. So, the last thing he wants is a woman in his castle, let alone to be married to one. However, Corvan and Finley find themselves drawn together in spite of being total strangers. The unsolicited pairing of the two leads to a plethora of mystery surrounding both of their backgrounds.
Embers in the Snow is a fast burn that immediately pulls you in. Both Corvan and Finley are sheer magic the minute they appear together on page. I loved that Finley was a woman who knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to ask for it... that includes her need to be with Corvan. I loved that Corvan didn't try to tamp down his feelings for Finley and made his intentions for her known early on; he belonged to her.
*swoon* And damned if this man didn't prove it by placing on a pedestal to watch as he commenced to burning the world and unalived anyone who posed a threat to her. *double-swoon*
No cliffy, as the story with an HEA. But I'm still holding out hope that we may get to visit with Corvan and Finley again. The worldbuilding in this novel was excellent. Therefore, there are a lot of opportunities for the side characters. If you are looking for a good, spicy fantasy novel to pull you in, I cannot recommend this book enough. I hope to see more romantasy novels from this author!
Happy reading!
