Little Stranger by Leigh Rivers

5.0

How in the world of all that is unholy and depraved has it taken me this long to read Little Stranger?
Taboo romance? Unhinged, mute MMC? It's what I've been looking for since I read Credence last year.

Malachi is the perfect level of psychotic and problematic and there is not a thing I would change about him. He's sweet in his very own obsessive, possessive way. While he is mostly shaped by his contrast to and love for his foster sister Olivia, their trauma is the fundament for both of their fucked up developments. Olivia, however, is encased in a role that she never asked for, bent and broken from outside factors even when she is supposed to be save and loved. It comes as no surprise that her connection to Malachi is what rattles her confines.

The plot, at times, felt predictable, only to then go a totally different direction than suspected. It surprised me over and over again and the in my opinion great writing style granted it the quality that makes a very good book for me.

Maybe the only upside of reading it just now is that the second book of the duet isn't too far off. And I am more than excited to hopefully spend more time with Malachi, sweet crazy Malachi and his love for Olivia.
