Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

5.0

I literally have no fucking clue what to do with myself because I need the next book like yesterday.

Going into this I’ll admit I was a little hesitant. I had been following the series on TikTok so the prospect of the book was exciting to me but I have been burned by booktok before and had no idea if the execution would live up to my own expectations of what it would be.

Well, it did and I’m wrecked because of it. Despite the murder, this was a very cosy, humorous read with lovable characters and a slow burn so agonizing (at lest to me) I felt like I was watching a kdrama, kicking my feet when the mc’s held hands for the first time on episode 13 of 15.

This is honestly a really good book to read when you want to wind down. Despite the mystery and stress-inducing moments in the book, I didn’t find myself to heart-wrenched or worried when things happened (well not until the end of the book which I’ll be recovering from for the next week). I did find The Villain’s backstory a bit anticlimactic. Yes, what we went through was very difficult but I was expecting a bit more for how much it was hyped up and for how vengeful The Villain was though for what the book is I don’t think it would have really been much worse.
