Maybe I am a soulless monster but the more I read this book, the more I disliked it and got bored with it. Don't get me wrong, it is a sad story, but it is very little else. Touching? Nope. This story was cheesy and predictable as hell. Thought-provoking? Not really. This book had some of the most pretentious lines I've ever seen. Augustus Waters is also one of the most unrealistic and eyeroll-worthy characters I've had the displeasure of reading. (Yes, I am a soulless monster.) I really thought this was going to at least make me a teeny bit emotional but I have never felt more indifferent to certain scenes that were supposed to be extremely sad.

It's not a terrible book and I get why this was (or perhaps still is?) so well-beloved by my peers from my teenage years, but while I didn't hate it, I mostly definitely have a profound dislike for it.
