You know that book you pick up because of the stunning cover and because it's written by someone who you're curious about? The one you kind of hope will be awesome but don't quite want to get your hopes up?

The Last Smile in Sunder City plays in a world where magic has always existed until an event called the Coda wiped it out and left a dying, changed world behind.

There is just decay and darkness in the new world, amplified by the main character Fetch Phillips' guilt. We see everything through his lens of loss and hopelessness.

At times there was just too much information. Every other line a new species or a new piece of history was introduced and it felt overwhelming. Yet in the end I loved every bit of it. The atmosphere created by Luke Arnold is dark, despairing like you've been soaked through by thundering rain and still have to keep going and going.

Most importantly it sparked my inspiration to write. I can only highly recommend this one!
