If you're looking for a little murder mystery read with dark academia vibes and a whole lot of astrology, look no further. The Cloisters by Katy Hays was genuinely a really engaging read and the prose was amazing. I felt like she really knew what she was talking about--I have no prior knowledge of tarot or things of the like, but everything felt well researched and detailed (and the level of detail didn't make it ridiculously complicated to read+++).

The main character Ann was a little annoying at parts, I'll be real with you, but I found myself caring about her and wanting the best for her. She definitely falls under the category of unreliable narrator, but the people she ends up surrounding herself with were without a doubt creatively complex and so, so entertaining. You know, now that I write it, I think that might have been the point??

The book puts a dark twist on the found family trope, and introduces a love interest Leo who *I* fell in love with. The romance subplot was amazing, but I would have loved more of it--okay, personal opinions aside because it isn't strictly a romance, it was well-written and amazing.

4/5 stars, definitely recommend.
