Monday's Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson

3.0

I liked so much of this book and it was going strong until the twist came three quarters through. I think it over complicated everything and was unnecessary. The story would have been just as effective if the two halves of the story had met at a point. We didn't need Claudia to have a memory loss.

That said, it's a heartbreaking story of adults not listening to children and of people thinking that the absence of a Black child isn't anything to worry about. That's the most effective part of this story. It didn't need a gimmick to come across clearly.

Imani Parks does an excellent job narrating this audiobook. Her voice is youthful enough to believe as a teenager, and it is mature enough to carry the weight of this story.
