Devils Kill Devils by Johnny Compton

4.0

This book has good moments, but ultimately I don’t think it makes good use of its premise. The guardian angel character disappears for the entire middle of the book, and I never fully wrapped my head about Cela’s convoluted plan.
Still, there were some really strong moments.
The family trying and failing to hunt vampires was genuinely haunting. I had to put the book down after “Be brave” and take a moment— that’s good horror.
There were also multiple  turns of phrase and character moments that I thought were good.
This book has good bones! It had some great scenes! It just wasn’t what it needed to be.
