Pros: I loved the concept of the book and the twist of the haunted house trope. This reminded me of the Monster House movie, with kids trying to defeat an entity but then later discover there is something deeper and more human happening. The house lore was intriguing. The rep in this was great of course but we already knew that going in and was one of the reasons that intrigued me...queer paranormal, phycological horror, love it!
Cons: I think what really dragged the book down for me was the amount of unnecessary scenes that didn't really help move the main plot along, but were there for the romance which was the weakest plot. Also there were a lot of cuts in the dialogue that really disrupted my reading flow. The last thing was the majority of the time it felt like telling rather than showing. For being a haunted house, Ellie was barely in it and they didn't discover anything for themselves only what was told to them, which lead me to thinking but HOW did that side character know....
Overall I can see the potential in this story and if more time was spent in how Ellie and the house interacted i would've enjoyed it more. Ill keep my eye out for future work by A.G.A Wilmot tho!
