I loved the audiobook so much I ordered/pre-ordered hardcover copies of the whole series before I was finished! This is the best fantasy book I have read in a decade, and the disability representation was something I never knew I needed in a fantasy novel. Violet Sorrengail manages chronic pain while in the war college for dragon riders, Basgiath, that her mother, the ruthless General Sorrengail leads. Her experience as a first year is unlike any other not just due to her disability, but due to the countless enemies she attracts based on her last name, notably Xaden Riorson, whose father was executed by Violet’s mother. The sexual tension between these two enemies is amazing, and the yearning had me on the edge of my seat. The accommodations Xaden created for Violet has landed him my number one book boyfriend spot and raised the bar for all the real men in my life. I truly can’t put in to words what the accurate representation of chronic pain in Violet meant to me as someone who has dealt with it since childhood myself. And that combined with the page-turning story makes Fourth Wing a no-brainer five star read for me!
