This story follows Claire and Austin. Austin, new to Frost Lake High School, has moved to the area to play soccer and train under a coach known for leading his team to success. Claire, on the other hand, is a former ice skater who had to quit due to an injury. She’s also recently ended a relationship with Von, the coach’s son and captain of the soccer team. When a spark ignites between Austin and Claire, Austin suddenly finds himself in Von’s crosshairs. What could possibly go wrong?
First off, I’m not sure what’s wrong with me, but I found this story slow. I also didn’t realize it was a Young Adult romance, a genre I’ve read plenty of over the years—but it has been a while. The dual narration in the audiobook is brilliant, so I highly recommend the format. I really enjoyed Austin and Claire’s relationship and them keeping it a secret, but overall, it felt a little juvenile for me.
I’ve never felt this way about a Young Adult book before, but maybe I’m starting to phase out of the genre—or perhaps I’ve been spoiled by adult romance with more spice! That said, I love Rebecca Jenshak’s books and have enjoyed several of them. I wouldn’t let my review deter you; this is likely more of a personal issue.
