I enjoyed the diverse cast of characters, the representation, and the fact that we had a main character with a physical disability. It's nice to see representation seeping into literature more and more.
And while I enjoyed the adventure and the something slightly different in this fantasy story, I was left wanting. It felt at times like I was reading a first draft to a book that is unfinished - there were multiple misspellings and missing words, plot holes left and right, and characters that seem unfinished. We have this unique world but know little to nothing of it. We get snippets of a war that happened and there are gods but where is the sustenance?
Also, was it me or did Inara read as an 18-20 year old rather than a 12 year old? I get she is a noble child that is raised to be proper but there were so many things she did that left me confused on her age.
