This story followed Lucy, Olive’s best friend and her romance with the handsome actor living next door, Adam Connor. Adam and Lucy didn’t have the greatest impressions of each other, especially considering the circumstances in which they met, which was a result from Lucy watching Adam from Jason and Olive’s home. This story definitely had “enemies to lover” vibes with Lucy and Adam clearly not liking each other, constantly arguing, and pushing each other’s buttons. For all their fighting and trying to rile the other person, Lucy and Adam found each other attractive, but kept denied any developing feelings.
After reading, “To Love Jason Thorn”, and how the book ended, this book picked right up after the first book which set up the stage perfectly for Lucy’s story. I genuinely loved reading Lucy’s point of view, especially right at the beginning, in a way it felt like she was breaking the fourth wall, and explaining everything that had happened to her since we last saw her in Olive’s story. For all Lucy’s chaotic energy, she continued being the most loyal, best friend Olive could ask for. If there was a way to describe Lucy it would be this quote, “For all her crazy, she was also normal, I envied her for that freedom. She knew who she was, and she had no problem showing herself to the world.” Lucy definitely wasn’t one to hold back on her thoughts, and openly expressed without, she was unique in the best way possible.
I found Lucy to be admirable, loyal, hilarious, blunt, and sassy. Lucy clearly had no filter, and aside from being honest, I could not help laughing at the things she would say. While Lucy was able to voice her opinions on a variety of things, one of her flaws was she was adamant on not falling in love, trying to keep herself from getting hurt, heartbreak. Lucy was strong, but for all her bravado, she kept her walls up. Adam was also someone who tried to maintain a strong front in the midst of dealing with his divorce, trying to get full custody of his son, Aiden, and trying to juggle his career while making time for Aiden. Both Lucy and Adam had their fair share of inner struggles, and trying to open themselves up to the possibility of love (with one another). Lucy and Adam didn’t have the best first impressions of each other, but as Lucy helped Adam by taking care of Aiden, and Adam helping Lucy, more time spent together enabled them to learn about each other, and provide the opportunity for them to become something more.
Something about the way Ella Maise wrote this book and her other book get me in such a way that I fall in love with the characters, can’t put the book down, and provides all I could want in a story. This story had romance, spice, character growth, endearing characters (both new and old characters), hilarious moments, and beautiful moments between the characters.
This book was absolutely amazing from the passion, romance, hilarious moments, and endearing, sweet words that had my heart swooning, this was another great book by Ella Maise. If you’ve read, “To Love Jason Thorn”, you’ll definitely love this book, and enjoy all there is about Lucy and Adam. Once again, the epilogue was lovely, and let’s just say… it was indeed a happily ever after for Lucy and Adam.
