this thing's a mess, man. in the first 10 chapters here, we see the main character beat up two different disposable "bully" characters and have no less than three (!) women jump on his dick, and all of this wish fulfillment is treated as much more urgent stuff than just basic exposition about how this world works, who the main character is, and why we should actually consider him interesting or likable. i'm not sure what to think of the reviews that are like, "this is the Dresden Files but better," but i think it has to come from a very different understanding of what makes books good than mine, for sure.
