Glossy: Ambition, Beauty, and the Inside Story of Emily Weiss's Glossier by Marisa Meltzer
informative
reflective
medium-paced
3.0
As a casual consumer of Glossier makeup, a perennial startup employee, and a person who goes online, I thought this was a worthwhile and interesting read. The author is thoughtful about acknowledging Emily Weiss’s substantial luck and privilege while still crediting her as a smart creative and businesswoman.
At times it feels like Meltzer set out to write a Glossier exposé and ended up with a biography of Weiss, who she clearly finds to be a frustrating subject. As a result, the through line of the book wavers a bit, but both approaches are present enough to be engaging.
