Mitchell & Corina: Where It All Began!- 5 Stars
Mitchell Shay needs a wife. Recently widowed, he has decided that its time for him to take a wife for companionship but mainly to be a mother to his son, Amos. So, how does he go about doing that? Well, the "Shay Way", which is literally snatchng a woman, bringing her home, and having a corrupt judge marry them (Based on the Romans and the Sabine Women). He does this to Corina, a young woman he drives miles to meet and snatch. Poor Corina is terrified and begs for her captor to release her. But, Mitchell is not your typical kidnapper. He's very charming. Throw in an adorable, irresistable son who quickly latches on to her as Mama, and a brother with his own previously-snatched wife as accomplices and you have the makings of this bizarre tale.
Now, you have to go into this book with your eyes wide open. IT IS A DARK ROMANCE. Meaning that its not conventional. The way they meet, their "courtship" and journey to falling in love is not rational by any "morally correct" means but it makes sense to them. I happen to like Mitchell and found myself charmed by him as well. Corina's behavior was totally credible, considering she was 18 years old at the time. Also, you need to keep in mind that this book is a prequel., set 40 years before the first book, where Amos is a man seeking his own wife the "Shay Way". I loved the story and as bizarre as it seems, these two made a believeable and viable connection.
I look forward to reading the rest of these books. This is the start of an excellent series!
Happy reading!
