Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

Meh. If you like romance you’ll probably enjoy it; as someone who is primarily a hard sci fi/epic fantasy reader, this wasn’t for me.

Pros:
- Loved the dragons and the Hogwarts-esque atmosphere.
- I appreciated the strong relationships Violet built with her schoolmates, especially the ones that weren’t romantic.
- There were a few tropes that reminded me of other favorite fantasy books (spoilers: blue flame, the extensive archives, and a systematically hidden group of evil creatures brought Name of the Wind to mind)

Cons:
- Way too melodramatic for my taste - to the point where I almost DNFed. The characters had zero chill, and the romance felt too overzealous to be believable. Teenagers are high-strung, but this was a bit much.
- Smut isn’t my cup of tea.

Overall, it was fine. I came close to putting this book down, but eventually the story became pretty engaging. I’m not sad I read it (dragons are awesome) but I won’t likely continue the series.
