The Psychopath Test: A Journey Through the Madness Industry by Jon Ronson
3.0
“The Psychopath Test” was not what I thought it was going to be and while Jon Ronson’s writing is engaging, the book just didn’t do it for me. I feel that I fell prey to the reviews on Goodreads which were very positive.
The book starts off with a mystery that eventually leads the author down a crazy (pun intended) path through the “madness industry”. Ronson meets the psychologist, Robert Hare, who teaches him about the diagnostic test he has devised to rate a person’s psychopathic tendencies. Armed with this test, Ronson goes out in search of people to interview who may score high on Hare’s test. He interviews various people such as CEOs of major companies and an institutionalized man who claims he's sane that Scientologists are trying to get released. It's all very odd.
Unfortunately, I simply didn’t find the book to be interesting enough to hold my attention. The book also wasn't necessarily bad and if the topic is something that interests you, you might want to give it a try anyway due to the writing which is often humorous.
