Watchmen by Alan Moore
5.0
What a story!
My husband read Watchmen last year and he hasn't been able to shut up about it. I wasn't sure what I'd think - I'm still new to graphic novels and most that I've read haven't been focused on superheroes. I'm not a fan of tons of action, so I definitely put reading this off.
But holy heck, it was worth the read.
This graphic novel is beautiful in ways that it's hard to describe. It says so much about people and what makes us human. It delves into the dark parts of humanity and what it's like to be somewhat outside of society. The art is gorgeous. The panels are often set up in ways that are jaw-droppingly lovely and intriguing. The characters are real and dark and raw. The complexity of relationships between characters just blew me away - these are real people with difficult and confusing lives and that makes it a difficult story to tell. But Alan Moore tells it brilliantly.
I highly recommend this book to everyone. It's a must-read sci-fi story and a perfect example of what graphic novels can be.
