All about Love: New Visions by bell hooks

hopeful informative inspiring reflective slow-paced

4.75

Love is such a basic human emotion and yet not everything is known about it. Love is often shrouded in mystery, in a cloud of “it’s just a feeling”. In this book, bell hooks tells us all about love, about it being an action and not just a feeling. About the choice to love and how that encompasses so much. And most importantly, bell hooks teaches us what is a culture of love and what it means to always choose to approach with love. I’ve always felt at odds with how the world portrays and normalises certain behaviours, I never understood that what I was really feeling was the lack of love in these actions. What bell hooks wrote put the feelings I’ve felt for so long into words. The lessons she teaches are so important and I think everyone needs to read this book.

The only reason for the -0.25 rating is that for me, I didn’t resonate with some of the chapters. In the sense that maybe I couldn’t quite comprehend it properly. I’ve also found some things to be repetitive so it’s not at all a testament to her wisdom, it’s just the writing at times.
