The Perils of Pleasure is the first book in the Pennyroyal Green series by Julie Anne Long, and it is such a fun and intriguing road-trip romance! Let me introduce you to our hero, Colin Eversea. He is a handsome and charming rogue, known for being able to charm his way out of anything. On the other hand, our heroine, Madeleine Greenway, is serious, prickly, and completely immune to Colin’s charms, at least at first. The story starts off with Colin heading to the gallows for a murder he did not commit. However, he is saved just in time by Madeleine, who is the mercenary hired to orchestrate Colin’s rescue. But they soon find out that whoever wants Colin alive wants Madeleine dead, which sets off a series of adventures as Colin and Madeleine go on the run to discover the truth.

This is an action-packed story that kept me on the edge of my seat. The plot and characters are well developed, and the world-building is excellent! There is so much character growth over the course of the journey as Colin and Madeleine learn to trust each other. And the romance is intensely beautiful and passionate. And when I say passionate, I mean the hot-enough-to-melt butter kind of passion! I really enjoyed this intro to the Pennyroyal Green world and am looking forward to the next book.
