Samantha Young beautifully crafts Callie and Lewis's journey from childhood friends to second-chance lovers in this captivating installment of the Adair series. If you’ve been following the series, you’ve already met these two as kids, making their adult story even more exciting. The narrative cleverly intersperses scenes from their childhood and teen years, shedding light on what went wrong and making their reconnection feel authentic and engaging.
The spice in this book is NEXT LEVEL. Seriously, it was sizzling 😉. Callie is a standout—self-assured, independent, physically strong, and yearning for unconditional love. She’s soft and vulnerable yet fierce. For those familiar with her mother's story, Callie's backstory adds depth, but this book provides plenty of context for new readers.
Lewis’s determination to win Callie back is refreshing. Both characters display remarkable maturity as they navigate their reconciliation and an unexpected pregnancy. Samantha deserves kudos for crafting an entertaining story without relying on unnecessary miscommunication and conflict to drive the plot.
While the suspense subplot intrigued me, it didn't grip me as much as other books in the series. However, the themes of messing up, feeling loss deeply, and finding ways to mend things are profoundly validating and hopeful. The connection between Callie and Lewis, despite time and distance, is beautifully portrayed.
The buildup for the next book is fantastic, and I can’t wait to see what unfolds with Eilidh! Forever the Highlands!
