The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North
3.0
Harry August is a kalachakra, a species of humans who live the same life over and over again returning to their point of birth after every time they die. The premise alone is interesting enough to compel me to read this book, and it indeed turned out to be a pretty clever book.
What I didn't like? - The narration.
In no time, I went from, "I love how the story has such a smooth flow" to "Enough with the needless digressions, already". I love non-linear plots, but the narrator was so jumpy, it felt like he was confused about what to tell first. The unquoted dialogues every once in a while weren't helping either. The protagonist was equally monotonous. For someone who has lived so many centuries worth of lives, he didn't have much depth.
This won't stop me from praising the author for coming up with an intelligent plot, mingled with intricate time-traveling theories. All the scientific elements in the books were well researched. You could literally feel the author's love for science. I'd definitely read her other science-fiction books.
