A Dark and Drowning Tide by Allison Saft

5.0

I could in theory have deep analysis thoughts about this book and the way that it following on the heels of A Fragile Enchantment, a book with a much softer view of empire is fascinating and feels very intentional. I could talk about the way our protagonists feel matched in a way they haven't before, despite being of different classes. I could talk about the complexities of the politics that Saft manages to weave under the fairy tale of it all. I could talk about how every tale in this book begins with some slight variation on "In the days when wishes still held power" and how incredible that is as a device.

Mostly I just want to go ALLISON SAFT YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN queen of enemies to lovers!! Stay winning stay writing thank you for my LIFE no one is doing it like you no one will ever do it like you I fear, thank you for my LIFE MS. SAFT!!!! And this time it was lesbians.
