The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

4.0

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is a magical mystery following an investigation into a woman named Evelyn Hardcastle, who is murdered every night at 11pm. Our main character is a man called Aiden Bishop, who soon discovers he is occupying the body of a guest of the party, and every day he switches bodies to a different guest to repeat the same day, in order to uncover different evidence from another point of view.

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is one of my first books this year. I've been in a nine-month reading slump. Wild. It's a unique and riveting murder mystery surrounded in a separate magical mystery. It's also a book about human nature, secrets, and choices.
“So many memories and secrets, so many burdens. Every life has such weight. I don’t know how anybody carries even one.”

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is a complex book with a complex plot but I did really enjoy seeing it all come together. It's truly a clever book. Our main character Aiden is likeable and I enjoyed reading from his POV, the guests he inhabits are not quite as likeable which made for an interesting read, the two personalities clashing.

If you are a fan of mysteries, then I would highly recommend.
