What the River Knows by Isabel Ibañez

5.0

This is the kind of books I can accept wasting paper on. It brought back my fascination with Ancient Egypt and I can feel myself falling down that rabbit whole right now. I liked it how it tackled colonialism and the many, many issues stemming from it in a respectful but not overwhelming way - obviously in this setting it would be impossible not to mention the topic, but I’m glad it was woven into the story rather than handled as historical info dumps. The characters were compelling, likeable and not without flaws. And we didn’t get another instalove between the two main characters which I really appreciate. All in all, it was a great book and I’m glad I picked it up.

(I wish I knew it was a duology tho).

However. WHITFORD HAYES I AM IN YOUR WALLS WHAT HAVE YOU DONE YOU BRITISH PRICK????
