Agnes at the End of the World by Kelly McWilliams
5.0
Agnes At The End Of The World explores what it means to be human in a world that is falling apart and does it with grace. It has a perspective on redemption and religion in a way I haven't often seen in YA fiction. I have a teen friend who is deeply committed to her faith and I often think of her while reading YA fiction and how there isn't often a space for readers who feel the way she does. As someone who is not a Christian myself, I found this side of the book deeply fascinating. It's had me up late at night considering my place in the spiritual side of life.
This story hit me in all the feels. The relationships between Agnes and her siblings is complicated and nuanced and I like that the narrative gave us room to experience the world through both Agnes' and her sister, Beth's eyes.
Kelly McWilliams has created a story with some of the flavor of The Girl With All The Gifts, The Stand, and I Am Legend. There is a tragic beauty to the end of Agnes' world and I hope you read it.
