[When he says:] “I hate that it took me so long to realize it was you. I feel like I’m playing catch-up.”
[And you think:] My heart is close to bursting. I’ve never felt this way. After all those years of pining for Jackson, I never let my heart go. I kept it close, locked away for fear he would break it. But now, it’s out of its cage, feeling freely. It beats harder whenever Jackson is around. It swells more whenever he smiles at me. The softest caress has it ready to explode out of my chest. I love that I finally get to experience these feelings with Jackson.
🏈
I am a pretty big football fan, but mostly for my own team. If I am watching a game outside of my own, it’s because the match-up is sure to bring drama or because one of the competitors’ win/loss is related to the success of my own team. So, with the season over (and my heart a little bit broken), Emily Silver’s Denver Mountain Lions are offering me a gentle reprieve.
The kicker for the Denver Mountain Lions is injured before the season even begins and is forced to rehab his knee, missing the first few weeks of the season. Typically, one would lean on their long-time girlfriend to help them through the grueling process, but she can’t be bothered, so he calls on his reliable childhood friend (who’s secretly in love with him). This book is a fun, football romance centering on a made-for-each-other couple. She might be a ray of sunshine kindergarten teacher, but she won’t take his bruised athletic ego lashing out at her. And the talent show scene was one of the cutest things ever! *cue the giggles and feet kicking*
It’s a cute story that doesn’t require you to love football in order to love our characters (but it helps). 😉 And I mean, c’mon, who doesn’t love a sports romance nowadays? (And the Taylor Swift song, You Belong With Me, feels very Jackson/Tenley coded 😍)
