Oak King Holly King by Sebastian Nothwell
5.0
I came into this with zero expectations. I got the book on a whim when it was on sale and I was in a romantasy kind of mood.
I am so, SO glad I did!
I love everything about this world and the characters in it. Wren and Shrike’s love is pure, deep, and immediate. Somehow that doesn’t make it boring. Their trust in each other and commitment to openness and communication just makes me melt.
Not to mention the big scary boi blushing when he gets compliments. I live for it.
I love that, even though homophobia is a part of the story, it isn’t used for shock value or as an excuse to abuse our characters.
I love that the character twist towards the end is handled with respect and Wren’s immediate pivot on learning it has my everlasting adoration.
All in all this is a five star read I eventually intend to put on my physical shelves as well.
