Normal People by Sally Rooney

Again, this is another book that I cannot rate because this is not the genre I usually like. But, having said that this book is different and I can see why there is a lot of talks and discussions around the book. Connecting with the characters was difficult at times. When I feel like I am starting to connect to them something will throw me out. I do believe this kind of storytelling where we slowly progress through the life of characters over a period of time is important and especially when there is so much going on in their life emotionally is important because it somehow helps us to keep a reality check.

I definitely did not work along or vibe with the characters/story but I cannot bring myself to say this is bad. Because sometimes I believe we try to stay away from the things that make us uncomfortable because they may be too real and we are not ready to face the truth. There are suicidal thoughts, suicide, body image, domestic abuse, sexual identity, and a lot going on. I get how the characters end up having the thoughts they have but somewhere at some point I'm unable to connect with that.

Will I recommend this book to anyone? Yeah, I think so but I guess this book will not be appreciated by everyone.
