Many important events happen in this book. The Aes Sedai in Salidar select an Amrylin, Perrin feels the pull of ta'veran and leads the Two Rivers army to join Rand, Mat accepts his role as general of Rand's army, and the Aes Sedai in Salidar and from Tar Valon send embassies to Rand, and Lan finally reaches his new Aes Sedai bond.
