Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas
2.0
I've had Punk 57 on my TBR for a long time and I finally got the chance to read it... unfortunately the long wait wasn't worth it for me.
I just found all of the characters so unlikeable, especially Ryen, which really hindered my enjoyment of the book. I understand the attempt made with her character arc but I didn't find it believable or genuine. The romance between Misha and Ryen begins as so hateful and I found myself cringing at the dialogue and interactions between them both. As I wasn't rooting for their characters or relationship, it was hard to enjoy this contemporary romance.
There is a lot of bullying and high-school immature behaviour in this book, as I was reading it felt very "American" and overexaggerated.
The worst part of this book however was listening to the Audible Audiobook. Unfortunately when the male narrator spoke any of the other characters' dialogues it wasn't well done at all, especially when he attempted to make his voice more feminine. It was just quite off-putting and I didn't enjoy the listening experience.
There was some twists I didn't see coming at the end but I think it was again too unbelievable and ridiculous. I think this one is just a dud for me personally. I read and enjoyed Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas and I still have some other books on my TBR which I'm hoping I will enjoy.
