This memoir would have been life changing for me to read as a young adult. While I am no longer a confused, closeted teenager, this book still had a large impact on me. Reading it felt like I was having a conversation with the author, making for an incredibly pleasant and easy reading experience even with the tough, important topics addressed. There were also letters/chapters to the author’s family, which I admired for their vulnerability. I also liked how the each chapter was written, starting with a personal experience and ending with a mini manifesto reflecting on what the author learned. And each chapter was cohesively organized within the book. Each chapter made sense in the overall theme of its part, and I liked the four parts, focusing on crucial aspects the shape a person. All of this is to say this book was incredibly well written. But this book is amazing in so many more ways that are impossible for me to describe in a short review. I truly believe everyone should read this and I cannot recommend it enough.
