Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling
5.0
The first time I read “the half-blood prince”, I was of the same age as Harry, Ron and Hermione. Ever since I have felt a strange kinship with the three of them, I understood these characters and their inner turmoil, as I had not in the past books. Also its witty, clever, emotional and sometimes extremely hilarious but more than that, I truly feel this was one book, which set the stage for the ultimate events of the final book. With so much information, it was hard not to devour it.
All the reasons why Half blood prince is my favourite HP novel---
1. This was the first book, in which J.K Rowling divulge us with information about Lord Voldemort, before this novel he was a mysterious evil figure. This novel sheds light on the pasts of not only Voldemort but also his mother and her family. Above all, we came to know, how he became what he was today. It was truly a treasure of knowledge.
2. The mystery revolving the half-blood prince and the enigmatic potions book was extremely intriguing. The first time I read the book, I was all for guessing who the actual half-blood prince was and I have to say I was not prepared for that reveal. So yeah! That mystery was very fascinating.
3. The adorable Professor Slughorn. I know, I know he irritated Harry to no end but you will have to admit he was a bit of character, Wasn’t he? I enjoyed his scenes immensely, who would have thought the secrets he hid behind his jolly behaviour. Also, Slug club rocks! Sorry Harry!
4. Didn’t you ever wondered while reading the previous novels, what was the source of Voldemort’s power and why he cannot die? Well I did and this book gave me the much-needed answer- THE HORCRUXES. Among all the revelations. I strongly feel the Horcruxes were the best one. J.K Rowling never fails to amaze you. Right?
5. The death eaters finally came out of their shadow and started showing their true nefarious colours to the world and it was about time.
6. The budding romance was so swoon worthy. This was the book in which we finally see Ginny in a new light. I cannot begin to describe the extent of my happiness when Ginny and Harry finally started dating each other. Not only that, this book also paved the way to the romance between Ron and Hermione, a couple for whom I rooted since the first book. Plus- Lav-lav and won-won even you will have to admit it was damn funny.
7. We were introduced to the magical Felix Felicis or the liquid luck, which made the person, who drinks it, lucky for some time. Now who wouldn’t want that? It was like discovering poly juice potion once again and it did help Harry an awful lot, so there!
8. Dumbledore’s ultimate sacrifice. Yes! The extent of Dumbledore sacrifice and death was only revealed in the last book. Nevertheless, he was always a hero; he did so much to help Harry, without his knowledge and guidance, Harry would never even had a chance.
9. We came to know so much more about the workings of the order of phoenix and the relentless hard work of its members to undermine the death eaters and Voldemort. From Kingsley protecting the muggle prime minister to Remus Lupin working undercover among the werewolves to the legion of order members who stood guard to protect the student of Hogwarts. These were some truly brave characters.
10. With Dumbledore dead and Snape betraying the order of phoenix as well as the Everest of work to be done by Harry, Ron and Hermione, now that no obstacle lay between Harry and Voldemort. This book was the perfect set up before the final show down.
