The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan
3.0
"It is woven from the most powerful paradoxes in the Nine Worlds-- Wi-fi with no lag, a politician's sincerity, a printer that prints, healthy deep-fried food, and an interesting grammar lecture!"
"Yeah, those things don't exist," I admitted.
3.5 stars for the humor.
A few years ago, I would have been all over this book. However, 3 Riordan mythology series later, it feels like another rehash. I was hoping the older characters would bring more maturity, but Magnus had the exact same sense of humor as 12-year-old Percy in the first book, which is pretty unrealistic. Sure, teen guys are pretty immature, just not that immature. Also, the characters and plot seemed a lot like a repeat. Sam is a cross between Annabeth and Reyna. Blitz and Heath are kind of like Grover.
The problem is, it didn't have to be a rehash. Greek and Norse myths are very different, and the Kane Chronicles are actually different from Percy Jackson. I think Rick Riordan did his best work with the Heroes of Olympus. I liked the characters better, and the storyline was more serious and had more depth.
Conclusion: Fun and it's a good book, but it seems like another repeat.
