The Will of the Many by James Islington
5.0
I have once again been blown away the plot, characters and magic system that Islington has created. The book is a political, Roman fantasy novel, in which inspiration from the Roman Republic oozes off every page and I was here for it. The scheming and the power plays that went on in the book were so clever, I was never quite sure who to trust and I loved it!
Pacing wise I thought it was excellent, part one moved slower due to setting up the book but once you entered part two the momentum of the book picked up, and then it never stopped. I loved the Academy setting, the classes, Vis’ friends/ allies, and the discoveries he made about Religion!
Vis was such a complex character, and quickly became a favourite protagonist of all time. Given the ending though I am concerned for him moving forward.
I did not see the ending coming!! The stakes were so high, I was anxious while reading to the point it felt like I was reading a thriller book (which I avoid most of the time). I had to read part three again because I wanted to fully understand the complexity of the ending (finishing at 3am, the mixture of tiredness, and reading through tears wasn’t great for understanding that ending). As always, Islington filled TWOTM with a lot of foreshadowing and I just can’t wait for book two!!
