I finished this last night, went to sleep, and woke up with so many thoughts going around in my head. It's a very matter if fact narrative for the most part. We follow Song Yan as she goes about her day to day teaching piano and cooking mushrooms for her husband that turn up on her doorstep. As she questions everything she's built of her life, the book gives us musings on grief and loneliness, but written so beautifully. I can't even begin to pick a favourite line, I underlined so so much of it. As the book escalates, the magic realistic elements ramp up, and the second half of the book was just incredible. I devoured it yesterday, and those final chapters we're just something else. If you love character driven narratives, that make you question your existence and end up becoming a fever dream, pick this up 👏 It won't be for everyone, but I do think everyone will get something out of it.
