This is one of the first poetry book that I’ve read in a long while and I loved it. The whole collection tackles what it means to be a black woman, a black daughter; what that means in regards to your sexuality, your body, your appearance and your mental health. There were some poems, however, that completely missed me which is perfectly fine because not every black girl’s experience is the exact same. Despite this, there were some poems that made me pause, that grasped at my heart and squeezed. Reading something that speaks not only too me but for me was a great experience.
