Why Fathers Cry at Night: A Memoir in Love Poems, Recipes, Letters, and Remembrances by Kwame Alexander

4.0

Type of read: Commuter Read.

What made me pick it up: I found 'Why Fathers Cry...' when I was looking for books for the November TN R.E.A.D.S challenge and the cover with the line "a love story in love poems, letters, recipes, and remembrances" just stuck with me.

Overall rating: I will forever be a sucker for poetry and sharing your story through words and verse. Alexander shared part of themselves on the page and you feel it. It makes you ache and makes you think and makes you want to join them for a cup of coffee and a calm afternoon where you exchange stories and 'it'll all work out' mantras. 'Why Fathers...' would be a very good intro to poetry because it's not your line-by-line, rhyming traditional poetry, but there is a beautiful lyricism to the entire book that just fills your soul.

Reader's Note: There is some minimal sexual content; however, it's not a lewd sort of content, it's a perspective on love and feeling. There are some recipes included, which include serving size and calorie count.
