I thought this was a really cute romance! It definitely wasn’t perfect, but I still really enjoyed it.
First, let me get out of the way the issues I had with this.
My main reason for not giving this a higher rating is the fact that the two leads acted like celebrities that were new to the business. Ashton is 40 y/o, and Jasmine was in her 30s. They were both acting like actors who had just begun to get a sudden hit of fame. They didn’t act like they knew what it meant to be a celebrity. Ashton acted like he could keep a whole ass child a secret from the press. Meanwhile, Jasmine acted like being on the tabloids was the worst possible thing for her career… Despite multiple people telling her any press is good press 🤦🏻♀️
The second reason I couldn’t give this a higher rating was because when Jasmine and Ashton have their big fall out, the words they exchanged with each other were unforgivable. They were incredibly harsh and cruel with what they said to each other. I didn’t understand how they could forgive each other after what they said.
Regardless. Those two things were not enough for me to outright dislike this.
I did think Jasmine and Ashton had genuine chemistry. Although Ashton was aloof in the beginning, I do think he showed a more tender and caring side once he let some of his walls down.
I also enjoyed the friendship Jasmine had with her “primas of power.” They were cool, funny, and didn’t always stand for Jasmine’s BS. Same applies to Ashton’s relationship with his family. His father wasn’t scared to tell things to him like they are. Ashton’s son was also a chaotic ball of energy that brought an interesting dynamic to the scenes he was in.
Finally, I thought the Carmen show sounded so good! I enjoyed the moments we had of the script that were interspersed with the inner thoughts/feelings of the mc’s. It had me wishing it was a real series!
In general, I was glad I picked this up. I found it to be an easy and engaging read. I’m looking forward to continuing the series!
