The Vegetarian by Han Kang

4.0

i feel like i missed some cultural sub-context in this book. the poor protagonist was SA and manipulated more times than i would like to count and it was all justified as the book was told from other perspectives. it could be profound at times, which was enjoyable, but other times it felt dark without reason. i felt empty after reading this, which i guess was the point. i just feel like i missed an important plot in the book; one second she is vegetarian and the next she has severe anorexia and schizophrenia. i felt like it all happened so fast, which i understand was a literary device, but i don’t think it landed well (for me). all my opinion, it was beautifully written!
