This is the prequel to the Practical Magic story, where we meet the original Owen’s witch, and discover why she cast the curse that we know so well from the film.

I knew I would find this a little difficult to get through as I am not the biggest fan of prequels but I wanted to read this before moving onto the rest of the books in the series and get a little more information on the origins of the Owen witches.

Whilst I did enjoy the story I felt conflicted as it felt like there was an awful lot happening with a lot of information given all at the same time, there were moments that the plot moved really quickly and other moments where it was difficult to get through the information given. I loved the witchy vibes and the lore that was within here, I also really enjoyed the details of witchcraft and all the recorded information that they kept and how they used their craft to help others who really needed it.

I felt so said for Maria on so many different occasions and I really wanted the curse to be broken for her, I was so intrigued by her placing the curse and felt it was such a shame that the trauma of her romantic past will somewhat haunt her forever.

I really enjoyed Maria and Faith’s relationship, and how Maria never gave up after what happened, I love to see a mother fighting for her child. I found myself really irritated by all of the injustices in this story and feeling really sad on so many occasions.

Whilst it wasn’t my favourite and I did find myself skim reading some parts towards the end I am so glad I picked it up and am really looking forward to reading the rest of the series, I wish I had done it sooner!
