Dragon Springs Road by Janie Chang
5.0
I am an Indigo employee, and I received an advanced reading copy of this book from Indigo Books & Music, in exchange for an honest review.
What a beautiful, beautiful book. It reminded me a LOT of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (one of my favourite books), and it did so in a way where it didn't feel like a copy. Dragon Springs Road is beautifully written, and I loved loved loved being in Jialing's head. The narration always felt honest and Jialing's struggles and experiences as a 'Eurasian' were powerful and heartbreaking to read about. Gorgeously written, I can't get over how much I loved it. I loved the little bit of mysticism, with Fox, and the gates. This book was a coming-of-age story about a young girl, ostracized, isolated, and betrayed by the world - but more than that, it was also a powerful tale of love, duty, and discrimination. I cannot wait to recommend this to everyone I know!
