I felt like such a seasoned epic fantasy/sci-fi reader with this chunky tome… but I really have a long ways to go. I was hooked by the expansive universe and worlds, and the fact that I was able to keep most of the characters, locations and terminology straight says a lot about the kind of author Ruocchio is (I can’t lie though, the glossary was very helpful). Some of the political scenes lost me, but that’s not all there is. I’m looking forward to moving forward with this series.

Quite a bit of swearing. Violence, murder, etc. There seems to be at least one same-sex marriage amongst tertiary characters, and the main character (male) is jokingly asked if he’s into men a couple times (he’s not).
