The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year by Ally Carter

1.0

Well call me the grinch the way I hated this Christmas book. This story is centered around a mystery and a romance and I disliked both. The mystery actually started off as promising I too wanted to know what happened to Eleanor Ashley and who was the culprit. I enjoyed how everyone had a motive, but the mystery took a backseat to the romance and that was a horrible choice in my opinion. I’m so supposed to believe that Ethan and Maggie just fell love in less than a week. I’m also supposed to believe that Ethan fell in love with Maggie at first sight and he’s been in love with her ever since. Every romantic scene together just felt like the author was trying her hardest to get an iconic moment but it never hit. The dialogue between them felt like lines it never felt real. They never clicked for me like at all. I hated the characterization of both Ethan and Maggie. Maggie was written like a loser and Ethan was written like an action hero. I just wish they were both written like normal mystery authors being thrown into this crazy situation it would’ve been more realistic and fun to read. But no Ethan had a solution to every problem to jumping in front of bullets for Maggie to knowing how to make a fire. This book was just a big NO for me and I wanted to really like it but I didn’t find anything to like about it. This book is being compared to Knives Out, but Knives Out was actually good…
